Moses:
Moses is one of the most pivotal figures in sacred history, serving as the prophet, deliverer, and lawgiver of the Israelites. Born during a period of Egyptian oppression, he was miraculously saved from the Nile and raised in Pharaoh’s court before fleeing to Midian. His life took a definitive turn at the burning bush, where God commanded him to lead his people out of slavery. Through a series of divine plagues and the parting of the Red Sea, Moses guided the Israelites toward the Promised Land. At Mount Sinai, he received the Ten Commandments, establishing the moral and ethical foundation of the faith. Though he died within sight of Canaan, his leadership transformed a group of enslaved tribes into a nation governed by divine law.

Walking by Faith, One Step at a Time

In our daily lives, the call to "reach the world" can feel like an overwhelming mountain to climb. We look at the needs of our community in Sutherlin and wonder how our small congregation can possibly make a difference. However, our Lutheran heritage reminds us that outreach is not fueled by our own strength or clever programs, but by the radical grace of God working through us.

"For we walk by faith, not by sight." — 2 Corinthians 5:7

Expanding outreach doesn’t always mean launching a massive campaign; often, it starts with "little steps of faith." It is the courage to invite a neighbor for coffee, the kindness of a hand-written note to a struggling friend, or simply being present for someone in a moment of grief. When we look at these tasks through human eyes, they may seem insignificant. When we look at larger goals, they may seem impossible.

Yet, by God’s grace, the "too big" things are reduced to manageable paths. We don't have to see the entire map to take the next step. Confidence comes not from our own abilities, but from the promise that Christ is already going before us. As we take these small, faithful steps together, we trust that God will multiply our humble efforts for His glory.
